Book value of an asset

Also referred as carrying is the value of an asset represented in the balance sheet. The value is calculated by subtracting the cost (historical value) of an asset to its accumulated depreciation, amortization and impairment expenses. The book value is not the market or fair value of an asset, the market value of an asset could be more or less than the book value
